Does long-term care insurance make sense for you?

On Behalf of | Nov 30, 2015 | Long-Term Care Planning |

At some point in our lives, we will no longer be able to do the things that we once did. We won’t be able to play basketball with the usual group on Saturdays. Those weekend hiking trips will be a thing of the past. And even some of the more basic tasks, such as household care and medical care, will require some form of help.

This is where a long-term care plan is essential — but even with a plan in place, the costs of long-term care need to be paid for. You may need to be insured, and in this regard, long-term care insurance (or LTC insurance) can be a vital benefit to many older people.

The purpose of LTC insurance is to protect people who need long-term care. This insurance addresses many matters that Medicare and Medicaid are unable to address. Still, Medicare and Medicaid can complement a plan that includes LTC insurance.

Having LTC isnurance is very important for many people because the costs associated with long-term care are prohibitive for many people. You can expect to pay thousands of dollars per month (if not tens of thousands of dollars per month) when you are being cared for under an LTC plan.

Determining whether LTC insurance is right for you (and how you will fund the insurance) is a critical step, and you and your family need to talk it through. If you need support during the decision-making process — or if you need help clearing certain legal hurdles — then you should consult with an experienced attorney.
