One of our founding attorneys was recently recognized as the “Barrister’s Choice” for best trusts/estate lawyer. Law Week Colorado publishes an annual list to track the highest performing attorneys in various practice areas with input from readers.
As the only Colorado newspaper written specifically for lawyers, law firms and the judiciary, Law Week compiles the list with the philosophy of “it takes one to know one” when it finding the best lawyers.
Awarding the Barrister’s Choice
In each practice area, there are two awards:
- People’s Choice – which is based on reader votes
- Barrister’s Best – selected by Law Week with input from readers and editorial staff
As the Barrister’s Best for 2017, the paper had this to say about :
“Marco Chayet surely would have found success in any practice area he pursued, but he was set on the path of elder law and probate litigation when in law school his grandmother became the focus of the largest elder law cases in the state. He has a long list of recognitions and accolades and has taught the subject at both of Colorado’s law schools.”
This recognition adds to the People’s Choice award that received in 2014.
A landmark probate case affects his career direction
Elder law cases do not always usually make headlines. But it was a controversial and public case that hit close to home for Marco Chayet.
In his famous poem, Robert Frost writes about two roads diverging in a wood and taking the one less traveled. That Colorado Court of Appeals case might just have been the moment that the two paths diverged for him. By upholding and protecting the right to counsel and due process for incapacitated adults, it set him on a path to advocating for those who need legal counsel when facing difficult elder law matters, special needs planning or probate litigation.
